Give us your fave shops in the comments--I love visiting new shops! (Remember, comments are moderated so your post may not immediately appear.)
Country Treasures, Brockport, NY (Primitives, folk art, and fabrics--not a huge fabric selection but she seems to stock most of the stuff I like so it's handy!). They just changed their website and I can't find the new one, so here's the phone number: (585) 637-5148.
Patricia's Fabric House, East Rochester, NY (Another great quilt store, nice selection) http://www.patriciasfabrichouse.com/
Jackie Lynn's Fabric Center, Rochester, NY (I bought my first Janome here--and several quilt guild members have taken classes here and spoken very highly of them) www.discountsewingcenter.com
Ivy Thimble, Victor, NY (Haven't gotten to this one yet, on my list! A friend frequents it and loves it.) www.ivythimble.com.
Mt. Pleasant Quilting Company, York, NY (I get my machine quilting done here--and they have a particularly nice and large collection of flannels) www.mtpleasantquiltingcompany.com
Material Rewards, Dansville, NY (Very nice quilt store) www.materialrewards.com
The Scarlet Thread, Webster, NY (Haven't been there yet but it's on my list) http://www.scarletthreadquilts.com/
Pine Needle Quilt Shop, Lake Oswego, OR (Visited this place on a business trip and LOVED it. It's been featured in BH&G's quilt shop magazine.) http://www.pineneedlequiltshop.com/ (There was another very nice quilt shop I stumbled across when I was there, in a different suburb, but I didn't write down the name and now I can't find it online because few stores post pictures of the outside of their stores so nothing to jog my memory. Note to store owners--please do so! Helps us identify you later as, "oh yeah, THAT'S the store I was in!")
Lolly's Fabrics, Shipshewana, IN (I've stopped here a few times on my way through on business. Huge selection, great displays, great prices!) http://www.lollys.com/.
Yoder Department Store, Shipshewana, IN (Stopped here once or twice--not as much fabric as Lolly's but still good prices.) http://www.yoderdepartmentstore.com/
And while you're in Shipshewana, eat here: The Blue Gate Restaurant http://www.riegsecker.com/. Or maybe I have always particularly appreciated it since I'm just coming off two weeks of conference center food, LOL.
Quilt Trends, Columbus, OH (Seems to specialize in art quilts--lots of embellishments and other products aimed at non-traditional quilting; had some "traditional" fabrics but most were more contemporary prints, display quilts tended towards contemporary patterns. Very fun! I bought some Lutradur and a book on same after a conversation with shopkeeper about some things I wanted to try doing. Still haven't played with it but I will!) http://www.quilttrends.com/
Village Comforts, Lake Placid, NY (Referenced in episode 006--small but great use of space, and wonderful selection of fabric.) www.villagecomforts.com
Ann's Cozy Quilts and Fabrics of North Carolina (haven't been to this one yet, but it's my BFF/BQF Kate's big sister Ann's shop!) http://www.quiltfabricstore.com.
Anne's Hawaiian Quilts (Proprietor, designer, and teacher Sayuri "Anne" Fujiwara is subject of my interview in episode 19 "In Which We Go Hawaiian.") Great shop--can be difficult to find. Look for Irish pub named Kelly O'Niels and the door is to the right while looking at it from across the street. Take the elevator up to the 8th floor. Plan ahead and try to make an appointment with Anne for a quilt lesson while you're there--she would make a great teacher! 307 Lewers St., Suite 804/805, Honolulu, HI 96815; phone: 808-922-3451; email info@anne-hawaiianquilt.com; http://anne-hawaiianquilt.com.
Sew Special in Maui (I talked about this shop in episode 19 "In Which We Go Hawaiian") Great shop with tons of fabric, very helpful staff. Extensive batiks collection, as well as Hawaiian/tropicals, barkcloth, and Asian prints. Queen Ka'ahumanu Center (shopping mall)--lower level towards the end with Macy's. 275 Kaahumanu Ave., Kahului, Maui, Hawaii 96732. Phone: 808-877-6128; Email: sewspecialmaui@gmail.com. Etsy shop: sewspecialmaui.etsy.com (nothing listed as of this writing but check back).
ONLINE SHOPS (Other than the big ones...)
I do a lot of my shopping online. I'm not going to bother mentioning the "big ones" here that most people know, but if there are quilt shops you've used online that have something particularly nice about them, please let us know! Be sure to give us the link, too. I'm always for promoting the "mom and pops", as it were.
In the Niche (http://www.shop.intheniche.com/). I ran across this while googling a fabric line I was trying to track down, and ended up ordering a bunch of stash fabric. It's a nicely designed website but what particularly impressed me was that, about an hour after I placed my order and had gotten the order confirmation by email, I got an actual, real live, phone call from someone at the store (perhaps the owner?) to make sure I understood that the fabric was sold in half yard increments. Yep, I had. But to get such a prompt phone call to clarify my order? Remarkable! I'm definitely bookmarking the shop.

Heart Song Quilts, Hot Springs, SD — I visited this store once and fell in love with it and the staff. The owners are so welcoming - had coffee to offer, the shop is full of finds and there is something for every quilter. The shop is located in the historic river walk area of the town. The shingle outside the door is a pieced heart inside a square set on point inside another square. The sign is done in white and red and looks like a quilt square. They are online at www.heartsongquilts.com
Another great shop is: Quilt Corral Too at Mistletoe Ranch, Hill City, SD — This is a wonderful, wonderful quilt store. It has such a variety of fabric. The owner, Joan Davis has staff are great in assisting customers in choosing fabrics and making suggestions. The second Saturday of the month is “Strip Club” where quilters can come together to show there quilting projects, see new fabrics, patterns and projects and have a good time. The shop is also on-line at www.quiltcorrral.com.
My sister introduced me to her favorite quilt store and now it is my favorite quilt store. It is the Quilted Basket, in Menominee Falls, WI. The owner’s name is Ann Wanke and she is very special. My grandmother and those before her were quilters, but it was actually Ann with a Home-ec background who showed me how to less fearlessly approach my machine in one of her classes. My sister and I also took advantage when Ann had a quilting retreat with about 14 other women. It was so nice and we are still socializing with those met there. Ann’s shop is 3 storefronts and is very warm and inviting … it feels like entering another world - one of which is very accepting of all level quilters. I feel very much a part of that world!
Birch Fabrics/Fabricworm, Paso Robles, CA and online - review posted at: http://artquiltmaker.com/blog/2010/08/birch-fabrics/
Broadway Quilts in Sonoma, CA. Absolutely lovely store and even nicer owner. Large store with hundreds of bolts of fabric. Quilts on walls and a great ambiance. Check them out at www.broadwayquilts.com If I did not live 400 miles away this would be my LQS!
The Quilt Merchant in Winfield, IL (www.thequiltmerchant.com). The best shop around for 1800’s reproduction fabric! But, they also have 30’s reproduction, Kaffe Fassett, batiks and fabrics for babies and children. Docia and her staff love what they do and just walking into the shop and taking in all the quilts on walls and beds is a treat. And if that’s not enough, wander into the wool corner……..
Glacier Quilts in Kallispell, Montana www.glacierquilts.com/
Quilt Gallery, also in Kallispell, Montana www.quiltgallery.net/
Quiltmaker’s Cottage, 1034 East Chocolate Ave. Hershey PA. www.quiltmakerscottage.com This is a charming shop in Chocolatetown. If you are in the Hershey/Lancaster area, you must check it out. All the ladies there are warm and friendly and more than willing to help with fabric choices or quilty questions. And there is always chocolate at the register!
Connecting Threads is a great online quilting shop. www.connectingthreads.com
Quilter’s Cupboard in Ankeny, Iowa. It is a sweet shop located in a cottage style house. They have everything you need. Their website is : http://www.quilterscupboardiowa.com, and they are located at 706 SW 3rd St., in Ankeny. They are small, but have lots of fabric to choose from.
S.E.A. Quilt Shop in Gulf Shores, AL. This is the only shop in the area, and they have a nice selection of fabric, more than I had expected. They don’t have a website, and it’s a bit off the main highway, but worth a visit.
